After undergoing three weeks empowerment training in Sweden, Mrs. Priscilla Quiah, senior trainer at the Liberia Media Center, has vowed to empower local journalists in reporting conflict sensitive issues in a way that will contribute to the building and sustenance of peace and security in Liberia.
Mrs. Quaih, along with 26 other participants from six post conflict countries, including Cambodia, Sierra Leone, Colombia and Timor Leste, recently attended an Advance International Training Program in Peace and Security in Sweden, which targeted people working in governmental organizations, human rights commissions, civil society organizations, academic institutions, media, private sector and political parties.
The training focused on strategies that initiate dialogue in the field of human rights, peace and security; develop action-oriented projects in the participants' respective countries, as well as build the capacity and competencies of participants in project management and results-based management in their respective organizations.
Mrs. Quiah praised the Management of the Liberia Media Center for creating a favorable working environment that promotes self-actualization. “As an Agent of Change, we promise to use what we have learned to affect change in not only the LMC but in Liberia as a whole”, Mrs. Quiah averred.
The third phase of the program is an interim period of six months which Mrs. Quaih says she will use to develop a project that will benefit journalists in the country. She is expected to travel to Cambodia in March of 2012 for the fourth and final phase of the program.
